보령시 중심시가지형 도시재생 뉴딜사업인 원도심 일원은 4개의 시장 및 5일장이 합쳐진 충남 서남부 최대 전통시장이 위치하고 있지만, 종합적인 계획이 부재한 지역이다. 그러나 각각의 시장 상인회가 적극적으로 참여하고 도시재생지원센터 중심으로 역량도 강화하고 있어 운영주체로서 역할을 할 것으로 기대하고 있다. 이로써 보령 원도심의 중심지 기능을 회복하고 낙후한 충남 서남부지역 거점도시로서 새로운 활력을 불어넣기 위해 도시재생활성화계획을 수립하게 되었다.

The Namdaecheon Village, selected as a general neighborhood-type New Deal project within the downtown area of Boryeong, is an area characterized by low-rise aged residential areas, unauthorized housing, vacant stores, and abandoned sites, located around the abandoned railway and the Daecheon Stream. The plan focuses on establishing a public service infrastructure and improving the local economy through the introduction of a sharing economy, with an emphasis on residential welfare. Additionally, the plan prioritizes utilizing waterfront spaces to enhance the attractiveness of the area and ensure sustainability through community activation.
