도봉2동 마을은 주변의 도봉산과 수락산, 중랑천등 도시내 수려한 자연경관을 가지고 있음에도 불구하고 1호선 고가철도와 도로에 의해 단절된 섬처럼 남아 있다. 다른 노후 주거지역처럼 재개발·재건축이 진행되었으나 진행되지 못하고 빈집과 불량한 가로가 정비되지 않은 채 사업체와 인구가 지속적으로 감소되었다. 서울시는 우선 희망지 사업을 통해 주민 조직을 활성화하고 해제지역에 맞는 사업을 발굴하여 주거환경을 개선하고자 하였다.

Although Dobong 2-dong village has beautiful natural scenery within the city, such as the surrounding Dobongsan Mountain, Suraksan Mountain, and Jungnangcheon Stream, it remains like an island cut off by the Line 1 elevated railway and road. Like other old residential areas, redevelopment and reconstruction were carried out, but they were not carried out, empty houses and poor streets were not maintained, and businesses and population continued to decrease. First, the city of Seoul sought to improve the residential environment by activating resident organizations and discovering projects suitable for the released areas through the desired area project.
